Jordan River Surf / Swim

Today, a bit of a departure from the usual weekend activities; a surf outing to Jordan River. Holy crap, when was the last time I tried to surf? Ummm, I think maybe sometime in 2007. Lame? Yes, but I have my reasons, namely recovery from a 2007 femur snapperoo.

So let me say that surfing involves one one of the most physically demanding tasks that I have come across over the years. No, it’s not the surfing, it’s putting on the damn wetsuit – time to put on: seemed like 15 minutes; time to take off: seemed like another 15 minutes. Seriously, what is my problem? Save your breath, I don’t think butter is the answer.

The village of Jordan River, and the site of today’s excursion, is on the southwest coast of Vancouver Island about a 45 minute drive from Victoria. There were some decent waves today and others seemed to be making good use of them, but for Michelle, Ryan, and I, the return on investment was not so remarkable. For me it was more of a swim than a surf, but admittedly, it was great to be in the water again.

No GPS info today, but here are some pictures.

The beach at Jordan River looking west/northwest I think. That would be open ocean over yonder.

Some waves were close to head height. Alas, today these were not agreeable for my beginner surf skills.

No, this is not me working the curls at Jordan River. I believe I may have been behind the wave trying to communicate with Sylvester the Seal while resting my weary arms.

The beach and shallows at Jordan River, while interesting to look at, are not the most pleasant to walk on or eject into.

Michelle was the camera master today. I was hoping to take it out on the water, but decided that my makeshift camera strap / noose was not going to cut it. Jordan River, I'll be back.
