Road Bike Ride – Victoria, BC – Sidney Roundtrip

Pedal power! If you read my last post you might recall my complaining about finding some strength to get out and do something more useful than watching the tube. Not only did I get out and do something useful today, but I also managed to scratch my cycling itch a bit (no this is not some crotch or butt condition). Recognizing that my cycling engine is in a bit of a state of disrepair at the moment, I am not expecting much in these dark days of winter in terms of cycling performance, but I am hoping to force myself into adapting to a more regular schedule of exertion. I think I’m smart enough not to go too crazy yet, but I want to be on the bike a minimum of three days a week, which is well beyond what I have been doing in the past couple months.

Today a Victoria – Sidney return trip was the manifestation of my rediscovered motivation. The first half of the ride dealt me a pretty steady headwind, which was probably not as strong as it felt. The way back to Victoria was more fun since the former headwind became a tailwind. I think I’m glad that, over the years, I have been able to develop a sense for wind direction while riding; it’s kind of empowering having an idea about where the wind will be a help or hindrance. All in all, a better ride than the one last week.

Sorry, no photos today.
