Here we go, 2010 has arrived. Since I wasn’t battling a hangover this morning (note: this never happens to me anyway), I headed out on the road bike. I suppose this could have been one of those “best of the 00′s” blog posts that you see elsewhere on the net, but alas I decided not to do that. What did you do for your new year celebrations? Michelle and I watched a couple movies (Smokin Aces and Idiocracy – alright buy nothing spectacular) and stayed up just long enough to catch the turning over of the year. Call me lame if you want, but it is not likely going to change my track record of uneventful new years celebrations.
Getting back to the bike ride, I didn’t really go out in the rain today because I made some silly resolution to do so, at least I don’t think I did. For me now just sort of feels about right to get started building some mileage for the coming riding season. No I don’t have any grand plans to do any serious racing this summer, but I do like being somewhat fit and somewhat fast. Someone I know (Vince) has suggested that he wants to do the Seattle to Portland ride this summer, which is a double century (200 miles or 320 km). For whatever reason, this sounded like a reasonable thing to think about doing, so I too am planning on doing this. We’ll see how the registration goes, but this will be the longest one day ride I have ever done if I’m able to do it. Today’s ride was good, but soggy; see below for a map and some pics.

Screw in tire = bad. Screw in tire + raining = more bad (yes, I realize this is not very good grammar). I do not get many flats, come to think of it the last one was in Girona in the pouring rain. Hmmm?

The sogginess continues along Lochside Drive. Thankfully the sogginess was a warm sogginess not cold.
