Weekends are almost always better than weekdays and that’s at least partly because a couple days are better than an evening for escaping to somewhere else. This weekend’s escape destination was Cumberland, near Courtenay and Comox. On the menu was some mountain biking (on some new trails – trail builders rule!) and some hiking, and also some less than healthy eating… bad us.
GPS Data (mountain bike ride #1): 16.6km – 2h50m – ooh, that’s a bit slow, but I think we also had a bunch of lolly-gagging time in the mix.

7am - leave Victoria in car, 9:30 leave Cumberland on bikes, pedal, pedal, pedal. Guess I should add that's Michelle and I.

A bit of bike and a bit of trail. I can't actually remember where this is... I want to say Buggered Pig, but I don't think that's it.

Rock, paper, scissors doesn't work if only one person is playing. Or, maybe that just means Liz wins and Bryan and Michelle lose.

Sykes' memorial bridge. It's almost the end of the summer so not much water underneath. No trolls either.

Yeah, dirt road is not nearly as cool as Cumberland singletrack, but if it gets you to the singletrack, then I guess it's ok.

The Thirsty Beaver Trail is a-ok by my standards; cool carvings of this face and the nearby beaver are all good too.

The Thirsty Beaver did not seem to mind our groping. I guess that's good. For those who might be concerned about the well-being of the beaver tree, I should point out that the tree was in fact broken / dead.

I think this is part of the Railroad Trail. Clouds were rolling in as we were heading back to town, no rain though.

It was a great ride with you guys, gotta love the beaver!
Some concern that the beaver is not drinking Molson Canadian.
thats because he’s drinking Thirsty Bever Beer..
